Kristy Maurina is a partner at MacDonald & Partners LLP where she has practiced family law exclusively since 2008. Kristy’s practice includes all areas of family law including negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation, with a particular interest in matters involving international child abduction, including Hague Convention and non-Hague Convention and jurisdictional cases. She appears in court regularly including at the Ontario Superior Court, Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal and has numerous reported decisions at various levels of court in Ontario. Kristy is committed to achieving the best possible results for her clients, whether through the family court process or alternatives to litigation.

    Kristy has been quoted in various family law articles including in the National Post, Toronto Star, The Lawyer’s Daily and Law Times. She has been interviewed several times on Global News Radio on various family law topics. She has contributed to various continuing legal education programs, including as co-author and co-presenter at the National Family Law Conference. Kristy was a member of the OBA Executive for several years. She is a contributing author of the Family Law Litigation Handbook.

    • Called to the Bar of Ontario in 2007
    • Developed her interest in Family Law, gained invaluable litigation experience and developed strong advocacy and negotiation skills while working for a downtown Toronto litigation boutique
    • Argued at numerous levels of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal
    • Successfully represented her client in an eight day precedent setting hearing before the Law Society of Upper Canada Hearing Panel

If you are a follower of celebrity headlines, then no doubt you have read all about the recent separation of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas.  The big shock here has been Turner's claim under the Hague Convention.

While I practise all areas of family law exclusively, I have a particular interest and specialization in Hague Convention and jurisdictional matters, so my interest in this dispute has now been piqued.
